Eastern Konyak Union visits Mon, contributes to landslide relief fund

Mon, July 29 (MExN): The Eastern Konyak Union (EKU), Myanmar, paid a solidarity visit to the Konyak Union headquarters in Mon on July 28 and extended financial support to the catastrophe relief fund set up for families affected by the recent landslide in the district.

The EKU delegation comprised its president P M Aman, general secretary K Akham Honwang, finance secretary Ashah V Anok and advisory board member R Manjai.

During the visit, the delegation conveyed its condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and to all those affected by the landslide, stating that the Eastern Konyak community in Myanmar stands in solidarity with the people of Mon during the difficult period.

As a gesture of support, the EKU made a financial contribution to the catastrophe relief fund established for the affected families. The organisation said the contribution, though modest, reflected its commitment to supporting fellow Konyaks in times of need.

The union said the visit underscored the long-standing people-to-people ties between Konyak communities living along the India-Myanmar border and expressed hope that such humanitarian initiatives would strengthen friendship, mutual understanding, goodwill, peace and cooperation between the neighbouring countries.

Speaking on the occasion, EKU president Aman said the landslide had caused immense grief among the Eastern Konyak community in Myanmar and extended condolences to the bereaved families.

He said the financial contribution was a humble gesture of support for the people of Mon and added that although the international border separates the two communities geographically, it has never weakened the bonds of kinship, culture and friendship shared by the Konyak people.

Aman also expressed hope that continued humanitarian cooperation would further strengthen relations between India and Myanmar and contribute to peace, development and prosperity in the border region. He prayed for the families of those who lost their lives, the speedy recovery of the injured and the success of ongoing relief, recovery and rehabilitation efforts.

The delegation was received by the president and office-bearers of the Konyak Union, who thanked the EKU for its concern and support for the affected families. The two organisations also joined in prayer for the victims, the injured and those engaged in relief and rehabilitation work.

The EKU also thanked the Konyak Baptist Church, Mon, for providing accommodation and hospitality to the visiting delegation, describing the gesture as a reflection of the unity and fellowship shared among the Konyak people. It prayed for God's blessings upon the church's leadership and congregation for their continued service and ministry.
