‘Education - The tool for empowerment of women’

Dimapur, October 14 (MExN): ‘Education is the tool to empower girl and if women are given opportunities, they would be able to polish and excel their talent,’ asserted Lanusangla Jamir, Women Welfare Officer, DLCW-MSK, Dimapur. 

Speaking in the International Day of the Girl Child event held in Dimapur, Jamir encouraged the girls to raise their voice in whatever situation, to be equipped with knowledge and self-awareness and always set good example for the society.

She was address as the keynote speaker during the event organized by District Administration and District Level Centre for Women, Mahila Shakti Kendra (DLCW) - MSK, Dimapur with the Adolescent Club of Neisatuo Colony in Collaboration with Can Youth, Dimapur on the theme ‘My Voice, Our Equal Rights’ at Nengulie Memorial High School, Dimapur on October 11. 

Jamir highlighted on the importance of girl child and how girls are taking multiple roles in the society. “A girl child should be preserved and protected and a girl’s right should be heard,” she added. 

She mentioned that discrimination against girls is very rampant and it exits in the form of verbal abuse, domestic violence, emotional and physical violence, child marriage and so on. “We should support organizations who work for the welfare of women and community as a whole, so that women empowerment could be achieved and in order to do that it should begin with girl child right,” she added. 

A press release from Can Youth stated that Dhonthaidi Langthasa, District Coordinator, DLCW-MSK, Dimapur, concluded the session with word of gratitude and acknowledging the participants for their cooperation and active support towards the program.  

Earlier, the program was moderated by Suikolie, Facilitator, Development 4 Adolescent, Can Youth. Sentiwati, Project Coordinator, D4A delivered the welcome address, followed by introduction and highlight of DLCW-MSK by Arhomo C Ngullie, District Coordinator, DLCW-MSK, Dimapur.
