Dimapur, October 23 (MExN): The Eastern Konyak Students’ Union Myanmar (EKSUM) today condemned the drone attack in Khammoi Village on October 20, allegedly carried out by Indian military forces, and termed it as “inhuman activities.”
The attack reportedly claimed the lives of a six-year-old girl and a young man, who was an Assistant General Secretary of Khammoi Students’ Union, a federating unit of the EKSUM. Several others were injured.
Eastern Konyak Union, the Khammoi Village Council, and Khammoi Students’ Union were also affected.
In a condemnation note received here, the EKSUM stated that in the drone-bombarded area, houses were completely burnt to ashes, while the whole village was affected due to the “explosion of poisonous gas,” creating a ‘deep fear psychosis.’
Citing reliable reports received from Khammoi Students’ Union, the EKSUM noted that the drone was launched from the Khonsa side, Arunachal Pradesh, at around 6:45 pm on October 20, without any warning.
It further asked how the Indian military forces could justify the use of such weapons in a civilian underdeveloped village area and urged democratic India to stop attacking simple villagers with such sophisticated weapons.
The EKSUM also appealed to all civil society organisations and student bodies to strongly condemn the action and urged the Indian security forces to distinguish innocent public areas from “underground places.”
The union further appealed to all right-thinking and civilised society, the Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights, and Nagas Without Borders to question whether dropping drones in public areas is lawful or unlawful.
Calling on human rights agencies to denounce the action, the EKSUM pointed out that India is a member of the United Nations and a signatory to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. However, the incident violated these provisions, it contended.
To this end, the EKSUM fervently appealed to the Indian government to “cease harassment activities on innocent lives and reconsider military actions on humanitarian grounds in public village areas.”
The EKSUM also conveyed condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased and wished for the speedy recovery of those injured.
