Community awareness program on Elder line-14567 and free medical camp at Viswema on May 13.

The Elder Line Nagaland today conducted a community awareness programme on Elder line-14567 and free medical camp at Viswema village under Kohima district
This programme was conducted to sensitize the people of Viswema about the Elder line and the various Government schemes and programmes that exist for the benefit of the senior citizens.
Neithonuo Liegise, program manager, Elder line Nagaland, explained about the helpline number 14567 and the services it provides such as information, guidance, emotional support and field intervention- rescue and abuse cases.
She told the people that they can call helpline -14567 from 8: 00 AM to 8:00 PM (Monday to Sunday).
She shared the vision of Elder Line, services and operation to facilitate happy and healthy ageing by serving the senior citizens of India with honour and compassion.
The Elder line thrives to make positive changes in the lives of senior citizens. It is partnering with a collective of highly committed partners including Government agencies, non-profit organisations and volunteers, she said.
She also explained the old age pension scheme for senior citizens and the benefits of availing a senior citizens’ card, that allows senior citizens to receive concessions while travelling in trains, flights, etc.
She sensitized them about the seat reservation that senior citizens have in NST bus and the separate counters for senior citizens in SBI banks in Nagaland.
It was done through the initiative of Elder line Nagaland to ensure that senior citizens don’t have to wait in long queue,” she said.
So far, the Elder line has rescued over 26 destitute senior citizens, since its inception. She also shared about the need for a Recreational and Day care centre for Senior citizens in all the villages in Nagaland.
Keduvi Zhotso, Panel Lawyer of Kohima District Legal Service Authority talked on “Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.”
He sensitized the gathering on various laws that exist to protect the senior citizens.
Over 160 senior citizens including Elder line team present at the programme.
The programme was chaired by Tebul Neikha, Chairman, Viswema village Council while Krutso Kikhil invoked God’s blessing.
Duhovil Rhetso, Secretary, Viswema Village Council proposed vote of thanks.
The programme was followed by free medical camp, conducted by Dr. Vephizo and nurse Dezhono. Senior citizens were treated at the camp. Free medicines also distributed to the senior citizens.
