Elimination of violence against women: House to house campaign in Wokha

Wokha, November 25 (MExN): Commemorating the international day for the elimination of violence against women, 16 day activism against gender based violence under theme ‘End Violence against Women Now’ was launched at Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Wokha on November 25.

SDO (C), Wokha Selemla S Sangtam who chaired the meeting said this is an annual event and during this 16 day activism team from Mahila Shakti Kendra, Saki-One Stop Centre and volunteers will be conducting house to house campaign where pamphlets/leaflets will be distributed to spread awareness and sensitize people to end violence against women, and stated that the campaign will culminate on December 10 incorporating with the International Human Rights Day.

Central Administrator, Sakhi-One Stop Centre (OSC), Renthunglo Kikon said that OSC Office which is located at District Hospital premises is fully functional and the staff are working tirelessly to assist girl child and women in distress and also facing domestic violence and other form of violence like sexual harassment and child abuse, she called upon the gathering to report such cases to the office of OSC so that timely action and help can be extended to the victims and that OSC is offering counseling and other basic needs free of cost.
