Rengma Selo Zi holds 6th anniversary celebration cum general assembly
Tseminyu, April 18 (MExN): The Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ) 6th anniversary celebration cum general assembly under the theme, ‘embrace, engage, empower’ was held at Khonibinzun village on April 17.
The RSZ in a press release stated that Hosted by Kasha Daho Youth Organization, the event was attended by youths from all Rengma villages and leaders of Rengma organizations including Rengma Hoho, Rengma Officers’ Forum, Rengma Mothers’ Association, Rengma Students’ Organization, Rengma Sports Association, Council of Rengma Baptist Churches and also village leaders, elders, guests and well-wishers.
The Angami Youth Organization (AYO) and Lotha Youth Hoho (LYH) were the special guests while Jonathan Mesen, Youth Secretary Council of Rengma Baptist Churches (CRBC) was the keynote speaker.
AYO President, Kekhrie Pfukha in his solidarity speech reiterated the need to strengthen the bond of brotherhood among the Tenyimia family. “Tenyimia is not a political body but a fraternal family based on ancestral root,” he said and stressed “Tenyimia community must strive towards unity and flourish together in the spirit of brotherhood.”
Pfukha also encouraged RSZ members and Rengma community to go beyond the parameters of our confinement, connecting with the rest of the Nagas and beyond while working towards common stability among the Nagas.
LYH President, N Yanpothung Ezung in his speech, appreciated the activities undertaken by RSZ for the welfare of its members being carried out in the Rengma area and the service rendered by the organisation during the COVID-19 pandemic. While extending solidarity to the RSZ in its journey ahead, Ezung said, “when people of different tribes, race and region come together, they can create extraordinary things and that the key is to cultivate the culture of unity.”
CRBC, Youth Secretary Jonathan Mesen speaking on the theme ‘embrace, engage, empower’ stressed on the need to raise a new generation of leaders to lead the masses. He exhorted that these new breed of leaders must have vision for the common welfare, “We need leaders who stands for truth and have conviction, commitment and vision for our people, and one who will put his career at stake for community welfare.”
Encouraging the members and the leaders present to stand for the truth, he quote added that as leaders “one must not shy away from the truth and must not seek to please everyone, and above all seek God first.”
During the General Assembly, the new Executive Council of RSZ for 2021-23 was approved with President, Kenneth Kath and General Secretary, Sokenye Kent re-elected among other officials and advisory team consisting of Prof GT Thong, Er J G Lorin and Zukeya Woch. It also adopted 3-points resolution.
Another highlight of the event was the symposium on contemporary Rengma issues. Prof GT Thong, Professor, Department of Geology, Nagaland University and Awa Lorin, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer and President Rengma Officers' Forum were the symposium speakers. Dr Lilongchem Thyüg was the moderator.
The event culminated with ‘Faces of Rengma Youths’ session anchored by Shatilo Kent wherein Rengma youth icons in different fields of work were acknowledged and given the stage to inspire the youths through sharing of their experiences and knowledge namely – Jonathan Mesen (Youth leadership), Obed Kath (Music), Joel Nillo Kath (Social Activism), Hyunilo Anilo Khing (Sports Management), Kvulo Lorin (Education), Nini Cheng (Women in Politics), Ar Jwenga Seb (Entrepreneurship) and Runchunilo Kemp (Social Innovation).
Reigning Miss Rengma,Meshenle Seb who made a special appearance in the event spoke on the importance of women's role in the society and encouraged them to take active participation in various social activities.
