DIMAPUR, AUGUST 15 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland Peoples' Organization (ENPO) and the Eastern Naga Students' Federation (ENSF) have jointly condemned a assault that occurred on August 8 in Pungro Town. A joint statement from the two organizations stated that the attack was carried out by the town commander of the NSCN (IM) and his accomplices.
The victims, identified as Sangtikiu and Ati, both members of the GPRN/NSCN (Kitovi) group and belonging to the Yimkhiung community, were allegedly assaulted with rifle butts and cane sticks while being held at gunpoint.
The ENPO and ENSF emphasized that such violence is a gross violation of human rights and an intolerable act. They called for resolving disagreements through dialogue and peaceful means rather than resorting to physical assault. The organizations expressed concern that the incident reflects a disregard for peace, justice, and human dignity, underscoring a growing trend of aggression that threatens the region's stability.
In addition, it was noted that Capt. Jangkhen, associated with the NSCN (IM), has been involved in intimidating student leaders, individuals, and business establishments. The ENPO and ENSF stated that such intimidation not only creates social disorder but also undermines efforts to maintain peace and unity in the area.
This incident, the ENPO and ENSF said, is seen as a direct violation of the ENPO's December 18, 2007, resolution, which denounces violence and intimidation within its jurisdiction. The resolution advocates for resolving conflicts through peaceful means, upholding justice, and fostering a harmonious community.
The ENPO and ENSF called for immediate action from the authorities, and urged a thorough and impartial investigation to ensure justice is served. They also demanded an end to the threats and intimidation.
