ENPO reaffirms Frontier Nagaland Territory stance

Urges coordination for early  & peaceful resolution

Dimapur, May 8 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) has reiterated its official stance on the Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Government of Nagaland, while appealing for coordinated efforts among key stakeholders to bring about an early and peaceful resolution.

In a press communiqué, the ENPO said it had submitted its stance to the MHA via email on April 28, 2025, followed by a submission to the Government of Nagaland on May 1. Hard copies were also handed to Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union (ENLU) members on May 5. Additionally, official communication was sent through the email accounts of Lok Sabha MP Supongmeren Jamir and Rajya Sabha MP S. Phangnon Konyak on May 7.

The ENPO appealed to the MHA, the state government, and both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members to actively collaborate in advancing a roadmap toward the realization of the long-standing demand of the Eastern Nagas. It asserted that the outcome of the FNT process would be a “win-win situation for all” and called upon all Naga tribes to uphold the matter in prayer.

Responding to recent remarks by Nagaland MP K.G. Kenye on an alleged high-level understanding between the state government and the ENPO, the organisation clarified that no conspiracy or backroom arrangement had taken place with the MHA. It said any discussions or agreements would be transparent and open before the tripartite table.

The ENPO also confirmed that no new draft on FNT had been formulated but that its stance and comments were inserted under the relevant sections of the Ministry of State (MoS) draft and the State Government’s comments following the last tripartite meeting.

The organisation expressed optimism that both the MHA and the state government would uphold the basic principles laid out in earlier drafts and comments. It emphasised that the offered FNT must reflect “utmost integrity” in line with the Government of India’s position.

The ENPO further urged the state government to remain proactive in supporting the aspirations of the Eastern Nagas, so that the region is no longer “subjugated under any political drama.” It recalled public assurances given by the Chief Minister of Nagaland to elevate Eastern Nagas on par with the rest of the state.

The communiqué called upon all churches in Eastern Nagaland to offer special prayers in support of the ENPO’s position on the FNT.
