Dimapur, January 29 (MExN): The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) in a representation to the Chief Election Commissioner, Nagaland, has asked for issuing the necessary clearance to the School Education Department for the appointment of primary and graduate teachers, which has not been done due to the model code of conduct currently applicable in the State for Election 2013.
The representation from ENSF President T Likhumse Sangtam and Asst. General Secretary Toponchuba explains that the Nagaland State government had sanctioned 2856 posts for graduate teachers and 1047 for primary teachers against newly opened primary, upper primary and upgraded GMS/GHS for the academic year 2013 under SSA and RMSA. Accordingly the concerned department had called for district wise open recruitment. The recruitment process was completed last year. However, the department could not issue the appointment orders to the selected candidates as the PSTE and B.Ed candidates had filed a writ petition against the department which has delayed the issuing of appointment orders, which has severely affected the students’ career.
The Federation then stated that the Kohima Bench of the High court has dismissed the writ petition on January 18 and directed the School Education Department to issue appointment orders in favor of the selected candidates. “However, at this context the department could not pursue and expedite the matter due to the enforcement of model code of conduct by the Election Commission in the State.”
The ENSF has asked for the CEC’s clearance to the School Education Department to issue appointment orders before the current academic session begins (i.e. 2013). Further delay in issuing the appointment orders, stated the ENSF, and appealed the CEC to “address this problem in the interest of the students’ community to enable the students to pursue their annual academic career without any hindrances on account of state general election 2013”.
