The Department of Sanitation and WSSO, PHED Kiphire Division in collaboration with Pungro Village Students’ Union (PVSU) organised a ‘Shramdaan’ at Pungro village as part of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign (September 15-Octiber 2) on the theme, ‘Visual Cleanliness of Villages.’
During a short awareness programme, Kiphire District Coordinator, Limatemsu highlighted the aims and objectives about the campaign which is to eliminate Single Use Plastics (SUP). He said that this campaign is not just a programme but it reflects the genuine concerns of common man and their resolve to address the issue. Therefore, ensuring cleanliness in the village becomes a responsibility for all the people as a concern citizens and this is possible through community participation, he added.
IEC Consultant, Tsarila L Sangtam emphasis the ill effects of Single Use Plastics and encouraged the participants for minimal use of Plastics by distributing Sanitary Pads which is of Bio-degradable and Cloth Bags to the women participants.
JEE, Metmai Phom briefed on the use of solid and liquid waste management and urged the participants to give their full efforts in village beautification by organizing mass social activities time to time and also stressed on the importance of Segregating waste.
Meanwhile, a pledge for ‘No Littering’ was administered by PVSU Vice President. About 180 participants from the village took Part in the event.
Anganwadi centres were visited where the team gave awareness for united India for Swachhata.
