The idea of envisioning a New Nagaland emerges as a strategic and visionary exercise aimed at exploring the possibilities for building a framework that better addresses the aspirations and welfare of the people. It seeks to establish a truly progressive, inclusive, and sustainable state rooted in Christian values and promotes equitable development, develop and strengthens infrastructural growth, ensures good governance, and provides opportunities for social and economic prosperity for all citizens.

Nagaland, a state nestled in the north-eastern hills of India, is poised for a transformative journey. Despite its rich cultural heritage and natural resources, the state continuously facing numerous challenges that hinder its overall development and progress. Here, this observation carries no ill intention towards any individual or institution, nor does it imply that the government is not working for the welfare of the people. On the contrary, the government is making sincere efforts to implement welfare-oriented schemes and development initiatives for the benefit of society, and these efforts are duly acknowledged and appreciated. Yet, there remains a pressing need for more focused planning, deeper commitment, and effective execution of programmes that directly enhance the welfare and overall well-being of the people. Therefore, the time has come to envision a New Nagaland, built on the principles of true Christian values, good governance, inclusive and sustainable development.

The Current Challenges:
i)    Superficial Christianity: Many Nagas identify as Christians, however, the deeper values, teachings and principles of Christianity are not always consistently reflected in daily life, social behavior and public institutions.

ii)    Poor Governance: Lack of accountability, limited transparency, and weak institutional frameworks, and mismanagement of public funds/resources hinder effective governance and slow down development.

iii)    Economic Disparity: Low income levels and limited economic opportunities continue to persist, leading to economic inequalities and limited livelihood prospects for many.

iv)    Tribalism and Favouritism: Divisions among Naga tribes and the practice of favouritism undermine unity, cooperation and collective progress.

v)    Unresolved Political Struggle: The decades-long Naga political struggle remains unresolved, creating uncertainty and continuing to affect stability, peace and development.

vi)    Corruption: Corruption is prevalent, eroding public trust in institutions and hindering meaningful development and fair distribution of resources.

The Vision for New Nagaland:
i)    True Christian Spirit: A society where Christian values of love, compassion, forgiveness and service genuinely guide the lives and actions of the people.

ii)    Good Governance and Administration: Transparent, accountable, and efficient governance that prioritizes the welfare of the people. Strengthening governance through responsible and accountable leadership, transparent systems, and robust institutions.

iii)    Equitable and Social Development: Promoting inclusive economic growth, reducing social and economic disparities, strengthening social welfare programmes, encourage gender equality, youth empowerment and ensuring a decent standard of living for all.

iv)    Naga Unity and Reconciliation: Building a united Naga society that transcends tribal and regional affiliations, fostering mutual respect, harmony, and collective progress.

v)    Naga Freedom and Sovereignty: A just, peaceful and lasting resolution to the Naga political struggle, respecting the rights, dignity and aspirations of the Naga people.

vi)    Corruption-Free: Creating a society where integrity, transparency, and accountability form the foundation of governance and public life.

Achieving a New Nagaland requires a collective effort from the people, leaders, civil society, and all stakeholders. Through thoughtful planning, inclusive dialogue, and sustainable strategies, it is possible to lay the foundation for a prosperous, resilient, and equitable society. Together, the people of Nagaland can build a future that becomes a beacon of hope, peace, and prosperity for the people of Nagaland and region.

Let it be known to other states and to the world that Nagaland has achieved a commendable transformation through faith, unity, trust, and love of its people guided by true Christian values.
