Longleng/Mokokchung May 5 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation (ENWO) and Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT), on May 5, have condemned the alleged ill-treatment of a 9-year-old-boy in Mokokchung town.
The case reportedly came to light on April 27, and the minor, working as a ‘domestic helper’ was allegedly abused by the owner.
Expressing deep concern, the ENWO condemned the “inhuman act” and appealed to the higher authority to look upon the matter with importance and urged for stringent action as per the relevant law against the perpetrator and to ensure justice without delay.
“Ignoring this violence will mean tacit support of this heinous crime,” the ENWO stated in a condemnation note issued by its President, A Shamthai Phom and Assistant General Secretary, C Auchingsonla Chang.
The organisation also noted that there is a rise of ‘crimes and violence against domestic helpers and urged the State Government and the concerned department to take serious cognizance.
It also appealed all the right-thinking citizens to condemn the heinous crime, noting: ‘No individual have rights to use means of violence to prove superiority over someone from weaker section, not capable of protecting themselves.’
Meanwhile, the MTLT also expressed ‘total shock’ over the inhuman treatment of the minor boy.
The minor was staying with a family under foster care in Mokokchung and he was “physically tortured and his body bore the marks of the inhuman suffering,” informed the union in a press release issued by its President, Imnaonen Pongen and General Secretary, Imkongchuba Pongen.
‘Such cruelty cannot be justified in any manner and the MTLT, in no uncertain terms, condemn the accused that meted out such brutal act on an innocent child, it said.
The MTLT also urged the concerned authority to expedite the case and deliver justice to the victim and his family.
In addition, the union also demanded the immediate rehabilitation of the victim under relevant government programme to ensure that the “mental and physical trauma” is alleviated to some extent.’
It further wished the minor victim a speedy recovery and also extended its solidarity with the victim’s family.
“We hope that the concerned authority will take this condemnation note with utmost seriousness and deliver justice at the earliest so that the pain and trauma of the victim and his family can be assuaged with the deliverance of justice,” the MTLT added.
Both the ENWO and MTLT expressed appreciation to the Childline 1098 for promptly responding to the case and registering an FIR with the police in coordination with the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
