DIMAPUR, AUGUST 21 (MExN): The Eastern Sumi Students’ Union (ESSU) and the State Mission Authority (SMA), Samagra Shiksha Nagaland held a joint meeting on August 19 at Shevishe village, Aghunato to discuss and resolve the issue regarding the incomplete/abandoned school buildings under Sub-divisional Educational Office Aghunato.
A press release from the ESSU informed that the meeting resolved that the four schools in question would be completed by year end. The SMA was represented by a team of six members headed by Joint Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha, Nagaland.
The meeting was held after visiting all the affected schools of GMS Shevishe, GMS Ngozubo, GMS Kelto and GMS Viyilho; and a discussion was held on the reasons for the delay in construction for nearly a decade.
The meeting resolved that GMS Kelto would be completed by September 2020; GMS Viyilho by November 2020; and GMS Ngzobumi and GMS Shevishe by January 2021.
“The reasons for longer duration in completion of the school building constructions in these two schools are due to the change in the location of building construction at Shevishe and to start construction afresh for GMS Ngozubo,” the ESSU informed.
The construction of the above school buildings will be monitored by the SMC members and ESSU officials and progress would be updated to the State Mission Authority, Samagra Shiksha, Nagaland on regular basis.
With regard to the demand of ESSU for penalizing those responsible for the delay in construction of the school buildings, the State Mission Authority assured the union that the “law will take its action without any biasness/favour.”
The ESSU meanwhile appreciated the State Mission Authority, Samagra Shiksha Nagaland for the sincerity shown in meeting and assured that the union would honour the agreements arrived at. It further expressed hope that whatever has been resolved will be accomplished.
The ESSU also raised many other issues in the meeting as per the information gathered from the RTI reply. The most important issue was the lack of even a foundation for school building construction at GMS Hoshepu A despite the paper showing completion of the school building construction and all funds released for the school. It demanded that the school building construction at Hoshepu A should also be completed in line with the other abandoned school buildings.
