Mon, March 7 (MExN): BT Longphick Konyak, Convenor, Ex-Regional Council Member in a release stated that the Nagaland Government had not yet responded to their Memorandum for Payment of Pension to ex- RCM’s. He stated that the members, now only six of them alive, from Mon had approached the Chief Minister in August 2004 and submitted their memorandums but that it was still futile. “We are frustrated because our patriotic actions have been forgotten by this present generation”, he stated.
It further stated that under a special provision RCM’s were chosen from within the given areas and as such they had performed their duties and functions as envisaged in the Constitution. “Therefore they are legal and authorized government servants, as authentic as the elected members of the Legislative Assembly. But while the elected members were awarded pensions, the chosen members (RCMS) were not entitled pension so far causing a lot of resentment”, it added.
Former TMPO, in its Executive Meeting on 29 September, 2005 at Longleng resolved to submit a representative to the Government for pension of the ex- RCM’s and ACM’s (Area Council Chairman) of TMPO Districts. But the response from the Government is yet to be heard.
“We anticipate the DAN Government to look into the matter as soon as possible and entitle us to pension from the day we rendered our valuable service during those grim days, but even if they deny us our right then also we will strive on”, Longphick added.
