Excise destroys impounded drugs & liquor

Contraband items including Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and other narcotic drugs worth approximately Rs 46, 11, 275 were seized by the District Excise, Narcotics Cell and Mobile Squad at the Excise Directorate, Dimapur, during November 2019 to June 2020.

The contraband items were destroyed at a destruction programme on August 21. During the period, the District Excise, Dimapur, registered 144 IMFL and drugs offences and realised a fine of Rs 2,06,000. It seized 5,060 bottles of assorted IMFL, 10,332 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon and 1,200 bottles of restricted codeine-based cough syrup.  The street value of the seized items were estimated at Rs 11,07,000.

The Mobile Squad had also seized 2,609 bottles of assorted IMFL, 5212 bottles of cough syrup and 6,065 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon, worth about Rs 12,54,275.

It registered a total of 194 offences and revenue of Rs 1,92,000 was deposited to the state exchequer.

During the same period, the Narcotics Cell registered a total of 162 cases under the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act, 1989 and five cases under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.

It seized 1,509 bottles of liquor, 210 kilograms of Ganja, 400 bottles of codeine cough syrup, 500 grams of Morphine and 170 grams of heroin. The street value of the seized items were estimated at Rs 22,50,000.
