KOHIMA | AUGUST 10

Nagaland State Women Commission urged ADC Judicial to expedite the disposal of rape cases which has been pending for the last several years. The commission who met ADC Judicial, Kohima, today disclosed that in Kohima alone there are 9 pending rape cases pending since 2003, including the recent one. The commission was reported to have told the ADC to expedite in finishing the pending cases at the earliest time.

The commission was particular about Late Somy Koshi case, a lady teacher, who was raped and later murdered in 2005. “We want the court to disposed off her case immediately without further delay’, said TCK Abeni, a Commission member while speaking to Morung Express.

The members, including its chairperson Sano Vamuzo, visited the family of the rape victim today. It was learnt that the pending cases could not be disposed off either due to lack of hard evidence or the failure of the accused to show up for hearing on the appointed day.

Even after a lapse of three years, late Koshi case could not be disposed off as the Magistrate reportedly is still waiting for the arrival of forensic experts from Kolkata to dig out the hard evidence.

The commission expressed concern over the increasing report of rape cases in the state. However, Abeni also said that even in the past rape cases had been there, but most of them went unreported in the media either due to ignorance or social stigma.
