DIMAPUR, JULY 8 (MExN): Police busted an explosives racket in Dimapur on Friday, July 8. A raid conducted by East Police station personnel led to the recovery of 430 sticks of explosive gelatin sticks, 90 metres of cortex fuse wire, 19 detonators, 50 kilograms of ‘ganja’ and 32 capsules of spasmo proxyvon from a house in Master colony (Nagarjan), near the railway tracks. The gelatin came to about 51 kilograms in weight. A twenty-year old man and a woman of around 26 years of age were arrested from the house.
The man was identified by police as one John Parite and the woman as one Rodi Mizo, both reportedly of NC Hills, Assam and were booked under the Explosive Substances Act and NDPS Act. They are believed to having been in the illegal trade for the past 3-4 years and ship the proscribed items from Mizoram.
According to East PS, it was under their scanner for the past two-three months. A raid was finally conducted today led by Priyanka Kashyap, IPS, and presently taking charge of East PS as the officer in-charge. The raid was preceded by an undercover operation earlier in the day during which two undercover policemen posing as customers went to the house and struck as deal with the arrested. They purchased some explosives in cash. Now, the police having had the required evidence went ahead with a full scale raid. The involvement of locals is yet to be ascertained.
