Nagaland’s Director General of Police (DGP) T John Longkumer today launched Nagaland Tourist Police Emergency Helpline No 112 for communication of tourist police in the form of a dedicated digital wireless channel at the State Police Control Room, Kohima.
Speaking on the occasion, Longkumer said that the Hornbill Festival of Nagaland is the State’s premiere festival, known all over the world.
Accordingly, he urged the Helpline Operators to attend to the call with utmost sincerity and in a most welcoming way.
During the last edition of Hornbill Festival, the police work so hard and there was no report of crime, he maintained.
The DGP also expressed hope that launching of the dedicated Helpline will further enhance the security of the visiting tourists and citizens in general.
Giving a brief on the initiative, Er S Changkri Konyak, DIG (Commn) said Helpline 112 is an all India emergency Helpline number.
To enhance communication with Tourist Police, the State Police Control Room has integrated an additional feature in the form of a dedicated digital wireless channel, he said.
He also informed that the control room has been integrated with the installation of one digital set each in the police control room as well as at the Hornbill Police Station at Kisama.
Further, a digital repeater set was also installed at North Police Station and 30 digital Walkie Talkies have been issued to tourist police personnel.
He said that the tourists can call 112 through their landline or mobile number.
