‘Fairytale’ prog cum exhibition and sale held in Pungro

Pungro, December 11 (MExN): The Pungro Cutting and Tailoring Institute held a ‘Fairytale’ programme cum exhibition and sale of materials produced by the tailoring institute at ADC office Pungro on December 10.


The institute, run under Manila Shakti Kendra (MSK), is a project of the government, gives tailoring training to widows and destitute women. The programme was conducted attended by leaders from Yimchungrü Tribal Council, Public Forum Pungro Sub Division, GBs and the general public of Pungro town, stated a DIPR report. 


Special guest, Abhinav Shivam IAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Pungro stated that in a society, the contribution of men and women are equally important and they need to complement each other in all walks of life. In a male dominated society like ours, as responsible leaders and citizens, we need to work for empowerment of women. Women should be given due space and respect. 


Kiusumew Yimchungrü, President Public Forum thanked the government for initiating this program for destitute women. Susanna, President YBA who also spoke on the occasion, challenged women folk to open up, assert the inherent rights and also contribute positively to the society. 


The fifteen trainees undergoing training at the institute gave a special appearance in the gowns designed and made at the tailoring institute guided by Kihikali Sumi, the tailoring instructor. Invocation prayer was delivered by Rehola, and R Kikhumthong pronounced the benediction.


Earlier in the morning, the livelihood tailoring shop for women was inaugurated by the ADC Pungro. The program was moderated by Nuhuta Tunyi, EAC Pungro. The shop is a pilot project of the government which will be run by the trainees would pass out from the tailoring institute.
