Nagaland Census Operations Director Dr Kenie Miachieo has expressed confidence that extensive awareness campaigns and cooperation from the public, community organisations, village authorities and other stakeholders would contribute towards the collection of accurate and reliable data during Census 2027 in Nagaland.

Furnishing false information during the Census is punishable under the provisions of the Census Act, 1948, Dr Miachieo said while addressing a joint press conference of the Directorate of Census Operations, Nagaland and Press Information Bureau (PIB) Kohima at Kohima Press Club on June 17.

Dr Miachieo informed that self-enumeration operation in Nagaland had started on June 16 and will continue till June 30.

In Nagaland, he said, around 400 self-enumeration data have received by around 2:00 PM on June 16 and hoping that the number will increase. The House Listing operation will be conducted from July 1 to 30, he informed.

Dr Miachieo informed that Census is a Union subject listed at Serial No. 69 of the Union List in the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution and is conducted under the provisions of the Census Act, 1948 and the Census Rules, 1990. “Individual information collected during the Census is kept confidential under Section 15 of the Census Act and that the exercise is conducted in collaboration with State Governments and Union Territories,” he stated.

He further noted that the last Census was conducted in 2011 and that Census 2027 will be the 16th Census in the country and the eighth since Independence.

Highlighting the digital initiatives being introduced in Census 2027, he stated that data would be collected through a mobile application, while an option for Self-Enumeration is also made available to the public. A web-based portal would be used for monitoring and management of Census activities, and House Listing Blocks would be created through a web-mapping application, he added.

Sharing the preparations undertaken by the State Government, Kelevituo Nisa, ADC, Commissioner office, Nagaland highlighted the administrative arrangements and training programmes conducted across the State.

He informed that Nagaland presently comprises 17 districts, 118 sub-districts, 39 statutory towns, 5 census towns and 1,606 villages for Census 2027.

He further stated that training programmes for Principal Census Officers, District Census Officers, Charge Officers, Master Trainers and Field Trainers have been completed across the State.

A total of 6134 census personnel, including enumerators and supervisors, have been deployed for the Census exercise in Nagaland.
