Farmers briefed on importance of Agromet Advisory services

Phek, March 4 (MExN): The ICAR Nagaland Centre conducted an awareness-cum-Farmer-Scientist interaction programme on the importance of Agromet Advisory in agriculture and allied sector.

The outreach programme was conducted at Lishemi village, Phek district in collaboration with Chakhesang Women Welfare Society and at Virazouma Village, Dimapur district organised by GKMS unit, ICAR Nagaland Centre, sponsored by Ministry of Earth Sciences.

Technical Officer urged the farmers to make use of Agromet Advisory services as it can make a tremendous difference to the agriculture production by taking the advantage of weather information and minimize the adverse impact of malevolent weather, ICAR stated in its press release on March 4.

Farmers were encouraged to utilise the advisory that are disseminated through different modes - SMS, WhatsApp, Meghdoot app and newspapers.

Dr Christy (Scientist, Soil Science) spoke on the promotional activities by ICAR  Nagaland Centre under NRM( Natural Resource Management) like low cost vermicomposting with polybags, Jalkund- rainwater harvesting structure, Integrated Farming System (IFS)- Self sufficient farming unit for one family for a year, liming to be done for acidic soils, terracing in sloppy areas, rooftop rainwater harvesting etc.

Dr Ebibeni, Subject Matter Specialist, Animal Science speaking on rabbit production management with changing climate scenario encouraged the farmers to go for large scale production and transform it into an enterprise of rabbit production as rabbits are quick breeding source of low fat, high protein meat.

Following this, a round of open discussion was held with the 72 farmers who attended the programme.
