Kiphire, March 20 (MExN): A training programme on ‘Diversified farming practices for doubling farmers’ income’ was conducted from March 16 to 19 at Khonsa block covering Fakim, Khonsa, Mimi and Salomi villages under Kiphire district.
A total of 120 farmers attended the training programme during which Seroba Sangtam (HEA, Kiphire) highlighted various cropping systems like mixed cropping, inter cropping, benefits of crop rotation and how it helps in maintaining the soil fertility. Citing the ill effects of growing sole cropping, he mentioned that it would deteriorate the soil in the long run.
Temjenna Jamir, SMS (Agro meteorology), DAMU, KVK Kiphire spoke on the various aspects of Integrated farming system, its role on the economic outlook in the farming community and also the role it plays in maintaining a sustainable ecosystem.
She spoke on the different types of integrated farming systems like fishery-piggery and fishery-poultry.
All the farmers present during the training programs were also briefed about the Mkisan portal and the bi-weekly messages sent through it. Accordingly, their mobile numbers were recorded for their registration in the mkisan portal. Awareness on Meghdoot, Damini and Mausam seva apps was also raised among the farmers during the programme.
