Farmers trained on value addition of agricultural and horticultural crops

Dimapur, February 25 (MExN): The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Mokokchung conducted a two-day State farmers training from February 18 to 19 on ‘Value Addition of Agricultural and Horticultural crops’ in Dimapur.

10 farmers along with 7 ATMA staff led by Sentinaro Longchar, Deputy Project Director, ATMA, Mokokchung attended the training.

On the first day, hands-on demonstration on value addition and food processing was conducted with Neisetuonuo Debbie, Horticulture Officer, and Sapong, Assistant Technical Expert from State Horticulture Nursery, Department of Horticulture, Dimapur as resource persons.

Participants were taught to make pineapple squash, juice, tomato sauce, mushroom pickle, various preservation methods and were trained on packaging and bottle sterilization. They were then taken to Medicinal and Aromatic Unit, Sugar Mill Village, 5th Mile, Dimapur. Resource person K Nihokhu Chophi,  Proprietor of Origins Nagaland demonstrated the process of various medicinal and aromatic plants to manufacture green herbal tea. Azupa N Chophi who owns an areca leaf plate processing unit gave a brief tour and shared on its eco-friendly benefits, employment and income scope for farmers and youths. After the two trainings were completed, the farmers were taken to the AC Market in Agri Expo, Dimapur.

On the second day, the farmers were taken to Pristine Foods, Nagaland owned by Apulle Phesao for a training on various fruit candies processing and juice making. She highlighted the importance of food preservation without any wastage, explained her recipes and encouraged the farmers for better packaging since it has higher value in the market.
