The Divisional Manager of FCI Divisional Office in Dimapur, P Vanlalpak K Gangte conducted a media visit to the FCI FSD depot in Tuensang on September 26 last. The visit was attended by Oscar Ningombam, depot in charge, and Manager of Vigilance. The purpose of the visit was to highlight the role of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) as a central government agency responsible for implementing the food policy of the Government of India.

During the visit, Gangte mentioned that FCI has six godowns in Nagaland, five of which are owned by FCI and one owned by CWC. The Food Storage Depot (FSD) in Tuensang is one of these godowns, with a capacity of 3132 mt. Currently there is a stock of 2049 mt at the FSD Tuensang.

Gangte further explained that all the food grains available at FSD Tuensang are of Fortified Kernel (FRK) and that FCI FSD Tuensang is responsible for meeting and supplying the requirements of three districts: Tuensang, Shamator, and Noklak. Under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), the average monthly issue from FSD Tuensang is 1345 mt.

In terms of logistics, Gangte stated that the food grains are transported by train from North India and other parts of the country to Dimapur. From there, they are transported to different FCI godowns in Nagaland by road through contracted road transport services. The stock is then issued to the Food and Civil Supplies (FCS) department and other relevant departments based on their indent.

Overall, the visit aimed to provide insight into the operations and functions of FCI in Nagaland, emphasizing its role in ensuring food security and distribution in the region.
