KOHIMA, OCTOBER 16 (MExN): The Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) has announced that the Naga National Martyrs’ Day Service will be held on October 18 at 10 AM at the Chedema Peace Camp, Chedema. The event aims to pay collective tribute and honour to the Naga martyrs who sacrificed their lives in defence of the Naga people’s land, freedom, history, way of life, and dignity.
The Naga National Martyrs’ Day commemorates the death anniversary of Zasibito Nagi of Jotsoma, who was assassinated on this day in 1952. The day is observed annually to honour Zasibito and all others who laid down their lives for the Naga cause.
According to the FGN, the day serves as a time of reflection, remembrance, and reaffirmation of collective commitment to the ideals upheld by the martyrs. It is described as a reminder of God’s faithfulness and a call to unity, humility, and truthful understanding in building the Naga nation together.
In connection with the observance, the FGN has requested Nagas in different villages and regions to visit local monoliths and memorial stones at 7 AM on Saturday to lay wreaths or flowers and offer prayers as symbolic acts of remembrance.
All Nagas, irrespective of location, have also been urged to observe a two-minute silence at 11 AM on the same day in prayer, contemplation, and reflection. It stated that the presence and participation of the people would lend dignity to the solemn service and reinforce the significance of the occasion.
