Jotsoma Students’ Union holds 75th anniversary celebration

MLA, 8 Western Angami A/C, Keneizhakho Nakhro, as the special guest observed that for a person to be successful, one need to take due care of our physical and mental health apart from getting educated and give equal importance to their emotional and spiritual wellbeing.
He was speaking at the 75th anniversary celebration of the Jotsoma Students’ Union (JSU) at Centennial Compound, Jotsoma, here today.
He pointed out that the final result of education should not be focused only on acquiring government jobs however it should equip a person to be able to be independent and self-reliant. Since government jobs were over saturated, there are plans to implement certain measures to downsize it especially through multi-tasking where a person would be made to look after more than just one simple office work, the legislator said.
On that note, he urged the parents to identify the talents of their children and guide them to get skilled through job-oriented courses apart from the conventional courses.
He urged the students to streamline their area of interest and not waste their time pursuing a course which may not be help them in the future.
Realising the need to seriously pursue education, Nakhro said pioneers of the union organised the students community which further propelled the whole community into having more awareness to educate their children.
In this regard, he urged the union to help its members identify their individual talents and guide them to become assets of the society.
Observing that one of the main concerns of the present generation was the climate change and global warming, Nakhro said it was the duty of the upcoming generations to preserve the virgin forests which were passed down by the forefathers.
“Our forefathers knew and told us to preserve our forests fearing devastation of such ecological wealth would result in catastrophe and drought,” Nakhro said.
In this regard, he said the village was directly contributing to the global efforts agasint climate change through its vast forests.
Earlier exhortations were delivered by former JSU president, Kevilhulie Senotsu and Dept of Agriculture Economics, SASRD, NU, Prof Rokoneituo Nakhro.
The programme was chaired by former JSU president, Kedolhulie Peseyie, while Calvary Baptist Church, Jotsoma, pastor, Rev Kelhuseto Nagi invoked God’s blessings. JSU president, Bode Peseyie gave the presidential address. The new team of office bearers will be led by Kekhrieneisa Nisa and Menovono Senotsu as general secretary.
