With the paving of roads almost over, workers are seen painting the lane divider of the highly anticipated project to expand and improve the Dimapur-Chümoukedima stretch of National Highway 29 on October 17. While the ceremonial foundation stone, signaling the commissioning of the work, was laid down in January 2018 and it was expected to be completed by September 2019, several factors have delayed the project, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As per the project specifications, the total length of the road from the New Field Checkpost to Chümoukedima runs 17.3km, while the 4-lane segment from Purana Bazaar to Chümoukedima runs a length of 12.9km. As of October 18, pavement of road is almost done, barring final touches in various intersections. Workers were also seen constructing a foot over-bridge at the 4th Mile NER Agri-Expo Junction as well as repairing/constructing unfinished drainage and damaged dividers. (Morung Photo)
