A fire broke out inside the New Secretariat Complex Chief Minister's Office around 7:30 am today. The cause of the fire was reportedly an electrical short circuit at a small room where inverters were placed.
According to sources, some jawans who were rehearsing for the Statehood Day Parade saw smoke rising from one of the rooms and alerted authorities. This allowed firefighters to intervene in a timely manner and avert a major fire from spreading to adjacent parts of the complex.
The Officer in Charge of Fire station (North) informed The Morung Express that a fire call was received at around 7:47 am from the Secretariat Complex. While personnel of the Fire Station had reached the spot promptly, the fire was doused off at 8:40 am.
The fire had reportedly started from a small room where inverters and other equipment were placed. Property worth about Rs 5-7 lakh, including inverters, batteries (4), computer set, photocopier and other electronic appliances were damaged. Other properties and the structure of the office were not affected.
