A major fire was averted in Dimapur in the busy Nyamo Lotha Road on Monday evening. A stationery godown located on the top floor of the St Mary Montessori School building complex caught fire but was brought under control before it spread to adjacent rooms.
According to the Fire & Emergency Services, it was alerted of the fire at around 4:51 pm. Two fire tenders from Fire Station, Dimapur (Central) and one from Fire Station (West), along with a crew of 7-8 personnel swiftly responded to bring the flames under control within 30 minutes of reaching the site.
Property, mostly books, estimated to be worth around Rs 5 lakh was destroyed. The building reportedly did not sustain major damage but it was still to be ascertained.
The proprietor of the stationery was said to have sustained a minor burn while trying to douse the fire initially.
