The first all women post office in Nagaland was inaugurated here today at PR Hill Sub Post office, Belho Complex by the Chief Postmaster General NE Circle, Shillong, PK Swain. The newly inaugurated PR Hill branch is the first all women post office in the state and the fourth in the northeast region after Agartala, Shillong and Aizawl, and is manned by sub post master Neikuo Angami along with 3 women staffers.
PK Swain said that India Post provides the biggest form of connectivity with 1.55 lakh POs across the length and breadth of the country. Maintaining that post offices touch everybody’s lives in some way or the other, he said that the department will be modernizing their services soon in a big way in terms of technology. He also announced that core banking solutions will be introduced very soon. He added that the all women post office is dedicated to the women folk, as a tribute to the women of Nagaland who he said are “very educated and talented”. Director of postal services, Nagaland, Som Kamei, in his welcome address, informed that women make up to 40 to 50% of the work staff in PO’s. He assured to provide all services to the newly inaugurated PO and expressed optimism that postal service in the state will improve. The inaugural program was chaired by Sungjemlila while vote of thanks was pronounced by ASPOs, Kohima sub-division K.I. Singh.
The second all women post office in Nagaland will be inaugurated by Nagaland Chief Secretary, Banuo Z Jamir. P.K. Swain, Chief Postmaster General, N.E. Circle, Shillong will be the Guest of Honour.
