Khumiasü | June 21
Parliamentary secretary for tourism, law & justice Yitachu graced the silver jubilee celebration of Khumiasü village, near Meluri town in Phek district on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, the parliamentary secretary said that it was not only the celebration of the recognition of 25 years of the village but it was a celebration of history as Khumiasu happened to be the first Catholic village in Pochury tribe. Also stating that Khumiasü also happened to be the first cent percent Catholic village in Nagaland, Yitachu said “When we said first in Nagaland, you have made Pochury people proud, you have made the centre of attraction for other people to know us.” In this, Yitachu challenged the villagers to live up to honesty, truthfulness and harmonious living. “Be truthful and honest,” he said adding that such atmosphere will keep their history forever.
Complimenting the village in making a record in 25 years, he congratulated the pioneers for painstaking where the village has come thus far. He also asserted that success will never come without encountering the difficulties and problems, adding that success will be reaped and enjoy by the people only after confronting the hardships and problems. Also unveiling the silver jubilee monolith, Yitachu wanted to see that through the celebration, the responsibility, task and challenges of the village is shouldered confidently and successfully in all walks of life in the years to come.
Later, he inaugurated a newly constructed football and rostrum of Khumiasü village, which was constructed under DUDA. He stated that the DAN government has created DUDA for backward areas of the state. He wishes to see that through the facility made available to the people, a true spirit of sports is built and the talented youth come up and showcase their talents to bring laurel and glory not only to Khumiasü village and Pochury tribe alone but to the Nagas as a whole.
Referring to various developmental activities, Yitachu also called for quality construction, adding that without quality construction it would only create a liability instead of creating an asset.
Also stressing on the need to seriously ponder over the responsibility and accountability, he said “Any work that you do will reflect your individual character.” He also stated that how small or big you are, how good is your mindset your work will show and reflect your life. Touching on civilization and rapid changes taking place in the modern society, he said “We cannot think of going back, we have to march ahead,” he added.
Briefing the history of Khumiasü village, Shiekutho Nyusou said the word Khumiasü means ‘Place of Tiger.’ Khumiasü villagers are origins of Meluri village. In 1975 the first catholic in Pochury who is also the founder of the village along with Nyiluotho and Zulatho became Catholic and were expelled from the village in 1976, who shifted to the main entrance gate of Meluri village. But complaining that it is too close to the vicinity of village and disturbance during the festivals and khenas were expelled again to shift for the second time. Whereby on October 15, 1978 Khazhipa, Nyiluotho and Tsivutho shifted to the present place Khumiasü.
Nyusou added that the Chizami Catholic church members voluntarily with diocese truck help much in transporting all the dismantled house materials. As years went by, many more non Christians from Meluri village got converted to Catholism, despite of the hardships that they have to face and willfully shifted to Khumiasu. No sooner having the required number of recognition of a village, started to approach the Government for recognition with Khazhipa as protem chairman from 1980 to 1987. Finally, on June 20, the state government recognized Khumiasu as full fledged village, which was officially inaugurated on August 26, 1987 by B. Shilu Ao, SDO (C) Meluri.
Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Riechusie, Village Council chairman while a pioneer speech was delivered by Khazhipa Nyusou. The programme concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Shietsutho, secretary KVC.Blessing of silver jubilee monolith was done by Rev.Fr Mathew Keemattan, Parish Priest. Presently, Khumiasu village consist of 82 households with 400 populations.
