Nagaland’s Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Neiba Kronu inaugurated the first Village Development Board (VDB) village building at Kütsapo village in Phek district on April 27.
VDB was first formed on December 6, 1976 in Kütsapo village with the initiative of the then Phek Deputy Commissioner AM Gokhale and was implemented throughout the state of Nagaland under former Chief Minister of Nagaland Vamuzo Phesao.
The VDB Kütsapo, in remembrance of the two leaders constructed the two storied building under MGNREGA 2017-2020. In this building, AM Gokhale Hall will be a meeting point for villagers for discussion of various welfare activities while Vamuzo Library will facilitate the people to do research on local self government.
Speaking on the occasion, Kronu said that Kütsapo is a legendary village and urged upon the villagers to live up to the legacy of being the first VDB village in Nagaland. He urged upon them to continue to do good deeds for others. It is not a time to exhibit ‘show off’ now, he said and called upon the people to reason together and exercise practical life.
Also touching on infrastructural and economic development, Kronu challenged the people to focus more on human resource development for a progressive society. Kronu asserted that agricultural activities are the sole area to boost the state's economy. In this, he encouraged the people to take up coffee, cardamom and other cash crops on commercial scale. Government is always there to assist market channel, he told the farmers. He called upon the people to preserve and conserve forest and wildlife for better co-existence. Together let us develop Phek area and beautify Phek town, he said and while assuring to work for all round development.
The purpose of the first VDB Village Kütsapo was highlighted by VDB secretary Vechikhoyi Lohe. Ruzukhrü D Vasa, Project Director DRDA Phek, NDPP former candidate Kupota Khesoh and Sovenyi, former president Chakhesang Public Organization also spoke on the occasion.
The programme was chaired by Zashevezo Rhakho while welcome address was delivered by Kutsapo village council chairman Shevotso Rhakho. Vote of thanks was proposed by first VDB secretary Dukhüyi Vadeo. Messages from Sano Vamuzo and family members of AM Gokhale were also read out at the function.
Phek Deputy Commissioner Razouvolie Dozo, Phek SP Vesupra Kezo, Phek BDO Kuhuchiyi Vadeo, NDPP Phek Region president Mosonyi Domeh were also present at the function.
