DIMAPUR, JUNE 26 (MExN): Breaking its silence on the recent development, the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) has expressed concern that at a time when Naga people are working towards reconciliation and understanding, “we have been confronted with a deepening crisis, which threatens to demoralize the Naga spirit and hope for Naga Reconciliation: A Journey of Common Hope”. “The Naga people are once again vulnerable to further separation”, stated a press note issued by the FNR.
Expressing its “deep concern and distress in the wake of this present political turmoil”, the FNR however stated that it will “refuse to be discouraged by the seemingly overwhelming situation, and neither are we prepared to give in to the principalities of division”. Rather, the FNR has called upon all Nagas to renew “our determination, our commitment and our call for reconciliation”.
Today at this juncture, the FNR stated that it was “most appropriate to renew our resolve to fully remain committed to actively work for Naga reconciliation on the basis of the historical and political rights of the Nagas”. The FNR also reaffirmed to steadfastly work “impartially without taking sides and without discrimination of any Naga political group - irrespective of geographical demarcations - by putting the common interest and aspiration of the people at the center of our activities”. The FNR also pledged to work for the reconciliation of all in the spirit of forgiveness, openness and mutual acceptance so that a shared Naga future is made possible.
Pointing out that after years of internal discord among the Nagas, the Naga public has clearly articulated their will, feelings and yearning for genuine reconciliation, the FNR with the support of the people, implored the leaders of the various political groups to respect the general will of the people by remaining committed to the call for Naga Reconciliation. The FNR appealed to the leaders of the Naga political groups to demonstrate political wisdom and statesmanship by decisively preventing all forms of confrontation.
“It is our sincere plea to all Naga political groups to address out-standing issues and disagreements in the “spirit of love, non-violence, peace, and respect” in order to safeguard the Naga historical and political rights”, the FNR stated. The press note also reached out to all Nagas – young and old, men and women, rich and poor to actively support Naga Reconciliation. “The time has come for Nagas to be decisive and it is imperative that we courageously strengthen the path for Naga reconciliation. Our future is at stake!” the FNR stated.
