The Tenyimi Youth Organisation Dimapur (TYOD) held its first general session on July 30 with Kuzholuzo Nienu, Leader of the NPF Legislature Party, in attendance as a special guest. The TYOD is a composite platform comprising the Angami, Chakhesang, Rengma, Pochury, Zeliang, Rongmei, Thangal, Mao, Maram, POumai, Inpui youth as affiliates.

Nienu, in his address, sought to dispel misconceptions, if any, on the formation of the Tenyimi Union Dimapur and TYOD. While stating that it should not be read as a move to gain political mileage, he said that the two organisations were formed not only to protect the interest of the member tribes but also “because of our common bloodline.”

At the same time, he maintained that it should not be used for promoting division. “It should be used for the greater Naga interest. Our sole intention should be to protect the larger Naga interest.”

According to him, Dimapur “is a complex and competitive” city, where it is hard for smaller communities to survive. “Any community without a youth force will be hard to survive in a cosmopolitan city like Dimapur, a very competitive city.” This is where youth bodies come in, serving as a bulwark to the interest of the community in general, he said.

While stating that Dimapur belongs to all Nagas, he said that all Nagas must ensure that all development is equally apportioned as any form of disunity or trouble in Dimapur will shake and break Nagaland.”

Vekhosayi Nyekha, President, Tenyimi Union, Dimapur (TUD), said that the Nagas have been living together as one and will continue to live as one people. While alluding to forces inimical to Naga unity both within and outside the state, he said, “Despite, we must aspire and work to live as one naga people.”

Giving the customary presidential address, TYOD President, Thejangulie Kire recalled how the organisation was formed by the TUD in 2015 with the objective of fostering stronger bond among the member tribes. “Our tenure started with a concern to improve the coordination among each and every tribes and I hope the spirit of this will flourish in future as well,” he said.
