An NDPP candidate in the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly elections, Supu Jamir today sought the cooperation of the people to mitigate the effects of the heavy rains in Dimapur. Jamir, who contested from 2 Dimapur II Assembly Constituency to eventually lose to the NPF’s Moatoshi Longkumer, visited flood-affected localities under the constituency. Accompanied by district administration officials, Jamir appraised the situation in three affected localities – SM colony, Zeliangrong village and Lotha colony, and met with the local council bodies of the respective localities.
Water-logging caused either by clogged drains or non-existent drainage system emerged as the primary culprit in the localities visited.
To alleviate the situation, residents of the affected localities urged the government to ensure proper drainage systems.
Jamir said that he will apprise the government of the predicament faced by the residents year after year. He said that clearing drains of debris and building drainage system where it is non-existent are the likely remedial measures. He also emphasised on ‘civic sense’ while stating that urban residents should refrain from dumping solid waste into drains.
