In what is being described as the largest medical outreach in Mokokchung District, a free multispecialty health camp got underway today at Impur, organised by Mopungchuket Baptist Church as a prelude to its quasquicentennial (125 years) celebration.
The two-day camp, held under the theme “Peace through Christ,” will continue in Mopungchuket village on August 30.
The initiative, the organisers said, reflects the church’s commitment to serve the community and extend peace and well-being beyond the pulpit.
Briefing the media, Rev Jongpong, Pastor of Mopungchuket Baptist Church, along with Dr. N. Moa Jamir and Dr I Imlitemsu Ozukum, informed that Mopungchuket village has produced 35 doctors working within and outside Nagaland. Of them, 17 citizen doctors and 6 in-law doctors are participating in the camp. They are joined by 15 laboratory, ultrasound, TB and X-ray technicians, along with 60 nursing faculty and students.
The camp will provide a wide range of services including general medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, dental surgery, ophthalmology, paediatrics, physiotherapy, AYUSH (Ayurveda & Homeopathy), community medicine, pathology, ultrasonography, optometry, TB testing under the District TB Programme, and mobile ICTC screening. Patients will also receive free medicines, while the ophthalmology department has brought reading glasses to be distributed after proper check-ups.
The organisers anticipate more than 1,200 patients to register for the camp, with doctors and health workers making provisions accordingly.
Rev. Jongpong stated that the health camp is a gesture of gratitude towards the people of the Asetkong range and Mopungchuket village, who have benefited from Impur Mission Hospital for the past 113 years. The hospital was established in 1912 on land donated by Mopungchuket village.
With its large team of specialists, diverse range of treatments, and comprehensive hospital setup, the Mopungchuket Baptist Church noted that the camp stands as the largest medical outreach ever organized in Mokokchung District. The camp is open to all, and villagers from the Asetkong range and beyond have been invited to avail the services.
On the first day of the camp at Impur, a total of 390 patients were treated across various specialties.
