The inaugural programme of the Chief Minister's Mobile Operation Theatre initiative under the free surgical camp for rural areas was held at the Conference Hall, District Hospital (DH) Zunheboto on August 25.
Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhutso, MLA and team leader, while delivering his speech, highlighted that this initiative was flagged off on January 26, Republic Day, covering 18 places in just 7 months so far.
Performing more than 500 surgical operations, and including dental surgeries, the team has now performed more than 1,000 operations.
“We have not visited Mokokchung, Kohima, and Dimapur as this initiative is for rural areas, and these districts do not come under rural areas. They have better facilities as compared to other districts,” he remarked, adding that they come under urban and municipal areas.
“Earning is not important when it comes to helping poor people. Though some of our team members are private practitioners, they never refused to go to any extent to help people. We have 16 members in our team, including our drivers and guards, all from different tribes, and we want to set an example that there is no tribalism when it comes to helping people. If different tribes join hands, we will be able to do something in the future.”
“Why should we wait for people to spend money and all their resources just to come to the hospital and get treated? Rather, we will bring the hospital to them and treat them through this initiative.”
He further remarked that Zunheboto's economy will somehow improve in terms of lakhs, and if the government is willing, they will continue to do good things in the future together. “Zunheboto is not new to me; I sleep here, eat here, and have treated people here in the past years.”
Dr. K. Akaho Sema, MD, Senior Specialist, District Hospital Zunheboto, read out a note on behalf of Sumi Hoho as the Five Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP) Civil Society Organization has resolved to abstain from participation in all state government functions, adopted on August 9.
Earlier, Dr. Antoly Suu, Dy CMO Zunheboto, chaired the programme, with Dr. S. Kuotsutho, Medical Superintendent, DH Zunheboto, delivering the welcome address. The vote of thanks was pronounced by L. Chinglem Konyak, NCS, EAC (Hq), Zunheboto. The programme concluded with a dedicatory prayer by Dr. Hutton Sumi, Pastor, Sumi Baptist Church Zunheboto.
The team will be available till August 26.
