Fuel prices almost at record level in Nagaland

Morung Express News
Dimapur | May 29

With the increase of 25 paise per litre, petrol was selling at Rs 93.66 a litre in Nagaland capital Kohima on May 29, while Mumbai became the first metro city to breach the psychological Rs 100 barrier.

Saturday’s price was just a one or two upward revision away to cross the record Rs 93.93 per litre on February 22, 2021 before the cut in fuel tax rates by State Government bought the price down by over Rs 3 a litre for petrol.

According to agency reports, oil marketing companies (OMCs) raised the price of petrol and diesel again on Saturday by 25-30 paise per litre across India. It resulted in petrol price rising for Rs 93.42 to Rs 94.66 a litre in Kohima.

Meanwhile, diesel price was retailing at record ₹ 87.75 per litre up from Rs 87.47 the previous day, according to the IndianOil One, the official app of the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd on fuel related matters.

Petrol and diesel were costliest in Tuensang at Rs 95.83 and Rs 89.76 respectively and it was Rs 99.39 a litre for ‘Xtra Premium’.

Fuel was cheapest in commercial capital Dimapur at Rs 92.71 a litre for petrol and Rs 86.99 a litre for diesel.

Meanwhile, IANS news agency reported that Mumbai has become the first metro city that is selling petrol at over Rs 100 per litre to consumers after OMCs fuel prices again on Saturday by 25-30 paise per litre.

With this, petrol price rose 25 paise per litre in Mumbai to Rs 100.19 per litre on Saturday. Diesel price in the city was also the highest among metro cities at Rs 92.17 per litre, increasing by 30 paise from previous level, it said, adding that never before the fuel price has come even closer to reaching this mark.

However, Thane reached the mark few days back while few other cities in Rajasthan (including Jaipur) Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, having the highest VAT levels on auto fuels in the country, have already been selling normal petrol for over Rs 100 a litre for past several days, it added.

AS per the report, with Saturday's price rise, fuel prices have now increased on 15 days and remained unchanged on 14 days so far in the month of May raising the retail prices of petrol by around Rs 3.54 per litre and diesel by Rs 4.17 per litre.

OMCs revise fuel prices daily based on global crude prices and exchange rate of currency. Besides, prices are determined by central and state tax policy, dealer’s commissions as well as other related charges, including transportation.

Correction: An inadvertent typo put the price of petrol in Kohima as Rs 93.71 a litre on May 27 and 28. It is clarified that petrol was retailing at Rs 93.42 a litre on both days in the state capital and not as rendered.
