Charges State Govt of not upholding commitment and assurance
Shamator, December 29 (MExN): The Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA), the apex students’ organisation of Yimkhiung Tribe, today expressed ‘great disappointment’ with the State Government “for not upholding the commitment and assurance given to the people of Yimkhiung Tribe vis-a-vis upgradation of Shamator ADC Headquarter to full-fledged District HQ.
“The State Government must fulfill ‘Gentlemen's Agreement’ both in letter and in spirit and declare Shamator to full-fledged District unconditionally as agreed,” stated a press release from the YAA General Secretary Donan S Yimkhiung and Vice-President K Thsanthong Yimkhiung.
“Continuous deceitful actions against the Yimkhiung people by the Government are highly objectionable, intolerable and needs highest condemnation,” it further asserted.
Stating that Yimkhiung people are peace-loving citizen known for its honesty and humbleness, the YAA claimed that the virtues were proven “during the recently concluded By-Election to 58 A/C Shamator-Chessore.”
It maintained that the NPPP candidate, during the by-election, was elected “unopposed” as sought.
“In return, your government did agree both in letter and in spirit to upgrade Shamator ADC Headquarter to full-fledged District Headquarter unconditionally,” it alleged, possibly addressing the Chief Minister.
However, YAA said that it was disheartened to see State government’s “inaction in fulfilling the long-felt aspiration of Yimkhiung tribe, and further demanded the government of the day to “honour and uphold Gentlemen's Agreement” and upgrade Shamator to full-fledged District Headquarter on or before December 31.
In the event of failing to deliver the State Government's commitment on the deadline, the YAA shall “continuously and fully support or comply with the directive of Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC),” it said.
Further, the YAA directed all its federating to remain “physically and mentally prepared for any sort of democratic protest until Justice is delivered.”
