Dimapur, September 18 (MExN): Asangma village in Tuli, Mokokchung today alleged that Rs. 40 lakhs have been sanction for construction of the Asetkong-Tsusangra road but there has yet to be any activity of construction, even repair works on it. In a note issued here, the Asangma Village Council lamented the ‘management of fund’ by the Public Works Department (Roads & Bridges) and corruption.
The village council said to have information furnished by the department that Rs. 40 lakhs for 2010-2011 has already been sanctioned for the construction of the said road.
“However, it is witnessed that no such road construction or repairing work has been done in the targeted road except dumping few loads of stone gravel at some portion and a culvert was build on the road. Now it is also found that money has already been released and withdrawn without doing any works as per the specification of the work,” the village council stated. The note was appended by the council’s chairman Tsukjem Lkr. The council lamented that even in the past funds meant for developmental work on the said road have been either misused or diverted to another project or area by the PWD department.
“Besides the AT have been neglected for such a long time and therefore, the condition of the road is pathetic for which it really needs a major reconstruction. The plight of the AT road will truly be experience and witnessed if the general mass come and see the ground realties of the road condition,” the council explained in its note.
The council has demanded transparency, accountability and sincere implementation of the development works in Nagaland. “But we are very sorry to say that this is the true practice of corruption. In this connection, if our grievances are not addressed in time and those erring officials who are involved and responsible for such malpractices are bring to book (sic) we will be compel to seek justice from the court of law,” the council said.
