‘The future belongs to the younger generation’

Senior GPRN/NSCN leader Azheto Chophy speaks

Dimapur, August 14 (MExN): On the occasion of Naga Independence, GPRN/NSCN President Gen (Retd) Khole Konyak and Ato Kilonser N. Kitovi Zhimomi said “it is clearly visible that Naga society is rife with suspicion, greed, hatred and division at all levels. In it we see the divisive politics at play to weaken the Nagas at the grass root level.” In a message which was released to the media, the two leaders pointed out that “many youthful Nagas, notably national workers, in pursuit of ranks and positions, indulge in treason without any guilt or remorse” and stated that “Nagas have unfortunately succumbed to the uncompromising attitude of leaders which has torn the fabric of our colourful Naga family.”
In a message to the younger generation, the two leaders said “We want to let the younger Naga generations realize that there is nothing better than serving the Nation faithfully and wait for the creator of Nagaland to reward them richly with position, power and honour in due course of time. The future belongs to the younger generations yet recklessness, as history shows, has never solved the problem within the Naga family.
If anything, it only sows hatred and revenge in human hearts.”  The two leaders stated “To build our nation, it would require utmost courage from National workers, Civil Societies, NGO’s, Student Organisations, Naga Mothers, and concerned Nagas at all strata of society.” It further said that what had been achieved by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) was praiseworthy and pointed out that “killing among the Nagas has considerably been reduced”. “We feel that Reconciliation process is a fine chapter in the Naga history. It has opened the possibility of Nagas rekindling their common desire”, stated the joint message from Khole and Kitovi. However, they stated that there “exist elements that continue to distort and misinterpret the agreed principles”. “None should sabotage the hard earned peace among Nagas through conceit and misadventure”, it stated.
