
Dimapur, December 12 (MExN): The Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench on Monday commenced live streaming of court proceedings in the interest of transparency, inclusivity, and access to justice.
The court proceedings are being telecast on the official YouTube channel ‘eCourts Nagaland’ in accordance with the Supreme Court and the Gauhati High Court (Live Streaming and Recording of Court Proceedings) Rules 2022, informed a press release from the GHC Registrar received here on Monday.
With this, Nagaland has become the third state in the North-East to implement court live streaming, after Gauhati High Court, Assam and Meghalaya High Court.
According to the release, the right to access to justice, guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution encompasses the right to access live court proceedings. “To imbue transparency, inclusitivity, and foster access to justice, the eCommittee, Supreme Court of India has undertaken the project of live streaming of court proceedings on priority,” it said, while informing that the same has been implemented for Court No 1, Kohima Bench from December 12.
“This will enable access to live court proceedings, including matters of public interest to citizens, journalists, civil society, academicians and law students on a real time basis, which was not otherwise possible owing to geographical or infrastructural issues,” it added.
With proper internet facility, litigants and the general public can now view the court proceedings from anywhere and also get a better understanding of the functioning of the Courts, it said.
In addition to the YouTube Channel, the link will also be made available on the official website of the Gauhati High Court, Kohima bench at https://kohimahighcourt.gov.in/, it informed.
