GBUD fears Nagaland under second wave threat

•    Appeals to screen every traveler and returnee entering state
•    Public requested to be responsible in adhering SOPs

Dimapur, April 1 (MExN): A day after the detection of high number of COVID-19 positive cases at St Paul Training Institute, Phesama the GB Union Dimapur (GBUD) expressed concerns that “the state is under second wave pandemic threat.” 

It cautioned that the state machineries such as health department, district administration, law enforcing agencies and CSOs cannot remain complacent on this matter anymore. 

The Union in a press release issued by its President, M Y Ngullie and General Secretary, T Onen Jamir pointed out that simultaneous general election taking place in few states in India, huge number of people residing in the state particularly in Dimapur district had proceeded to their respective states to cast their franchise. 

“Here the alarming danger is that the returnees will be coming from highly probable infection places. The concern authorities must be prepared with adequate preventive measures to detect people with possible COVID-19 virus carrier from entering into the state. Every travelers and returnees entering the state must be strictly screened from all travel modes to contain the spread,” it stated. 

The GBUD also cautioned the public to be discipline and responsible in adhering the SOPs for their own safety and for the safety of others. “The union is of the opinion that stern action to be taken and impose penalty against the defaulters,” it stated.

Meanwhile, the Union also extended full cooperation to the authorities for the welfare of the people in the fight against COVID-19.
