Khehoi | June 15 : Recently appointed president of the GPRN/NSCN ‘Gen’ Khole Konyak assured the Naga people that their will and aspiration would be upheld at all costs as he has been entrusted with the responsibility to serve the ‘Naga nation’ as its President.
GPRN/NSCN on Wednesday held the Presidential inception ceremony at its Council Headquarters Khehoi designated camp. It may be mentioned that with the impeachment and expulsion of S. S. Khaplang, the GPRN/NSCN has shifted its Council Headquarters to Khehoi designated camp.
Delivering his first address as the President to the ‘Naga nation,’ Gen Khole said he recognized the fervent will of the Naga people to reconcile, unite across all differences and stand the ground for a common future.
He said that the mandate of the people to assert a united solution would be reciprocated in toto for an undivided endeavour.
With a common vision and united effort the Naga people shall expedite a peaceful and lasting solution to the vexed “Indo-Naga” political issue. The president affirmed the stand of the GPRN/NSCN to take into account the Naga people’s views and opinions into confidence in the course of the political future.
Later, addressing a press conference along with other top leaders of the GPRN/NSCN, Gen Khole said the Naga people have lost many years of hope as SS Khaplang had been opposing peace, unity and reconciliation move of the people. He said it was now time to consider the will of the people and expedite all processes that would lead towards peaceful resolution of the Naga political issue. Gen Kholi also said Khaplang would be held responsible in the event of any unwanted development.
Brushing aside likely misconceptions that there is a split within the group, the GPRN/NSCN general secretary, N. Kitovi Zhimomi said there was “no crisis or split” as may be thought. Kitovi reiterated that Khaplang was impeached and expelled as he breached the GPRN/NSCN constitution.
He said there was no other group such as NSCN (K) as may be used by Khaplang who has now become a “mere public” after his expulsion. If there is any other group in the name of NSCN, then Khaplang might be forming his own hostile group, Kitovi said.
The general secretary alleged that he and other members of the GPRN/NSCN were “threatened” by Khaplang for attending last year’s September Summit in Dimapur. “Khaplang cannot force us to go against the will of the people,” Kitovi said and recollected that Khaplang withdrew his signature from the Covenant of Reconciliation. He said Khaplang’s opposition to the reconciliation process was evident from the recent expulsion order served against him, Azheto Chophy and other leaders for participating in the FNR’s reconciliation process.
Kitovi expressed the hope that under the Presidentship of Gen Khole, the dream of the Nagas would be realized. He solicited the support of the people towards achieving the common goal. Kitovi said till the time new C-in-C is appointed Gen Kholi would continue to hold the post of the C-in-C.
The presidential inception ceremony was attended by Kilonsers, tatars, National Political Advisory Committee (NPAC) members, regional chairmen and members of the Naga army and civil wing.
