Girl Child week celebrated in Mon district

Mon, October 13 (MExN): Several activities including logo campaigns and webinars were taken up in Mon district in the week leading up to International Day of the Girl Child on October 11.

According to updates from the DIPR, in the first week of October, results of the 'Online Photography Competition of Mother and Daughter in Traditional Attire’ was declared. The competition was organized as part of the Konyak post harvest festival 'La-Ong Mo,’ thus attracting dozens of entries, it said. 

On October 2, marking the celebration of Gandhiji's 150th Birth Anniversary, a Beti Bachao Betoi Padhao (BBBP) logo campaign was initiated wherein netizens were requested to set the BBBP logo as their official display picture/profile picture for a day. The updates stated that the initiative generated support, swamping the WhatsApp messenger app with the BBBP logo. The official district website and BBBP Facebook Page also floated the logo, it added.

A webinar for civil service aspirants was organized with two officers of the district—IAS officer Vineet Kumar and NCS officer Khenpa as resource persons on October 5, it said.

This was followed by commemoration of International Day of the Girl Child on October 11 with various activities in the district headquarter as well as the subdivisions. 

At Mon headquarter, BBBP Champions Nginlei and Pongam (Mechanics) visited the District Hospital to felicitate parents of new born baby girls. The Mahila Shakti Kendra and Sakshi - OSC team accompanied them during the visit.

Further, in Anjanyang subdivision, an online dancing competition was organized while a painting competition for girls and an awareness programme on COVID- 19 for adolescent girls was held in Tizit subdivision. 

In Naginimora subdivision, girls of various high schools/higher secondary schools initiated a town cleaning drive and two online competitions—‘Mother Daughter Traditional Wear Photo Competition’ and online singing competition for girls were held in Aboi subdivision.
