DIMAPUR, JANUARY 22 (MExN): Central Congress leaders who arrived Dimapur on Tuesday have lashed out at the ruling NPF-led DAN government for squandering crores of money sent from the Centre and creating social instability in the state.
Union Petroleum Minister, M. Veerappa Moily, former Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Mukul Balakrishna Wasnik and AICC General Secretary and in-charge of Nagaland, Luizinho Faleiro are in the state to meet party leaders and intending candidates in connection with the general elections scheduled for February 23.
They also released a book published by the NPCC, ‘10 years of NPF Misrule in Nagaland - A Decade of Scandals and Corruptions - An ‘Expose’ by the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee’ during a brief function at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur. Speaking after releasing the book, Faleiro said that the book had “horrible contents” clearly showing the picture of what has been happening in the state for the last 10 years.
He described the book as a “chargesheet against Nagaland government and an eloquent example of how thousands of crores are squandered.”
Faleiro said it was the right time for the people of Nagaland to ponder where all the funds granted by the Centre were disappearing without reaching the people.
“Nagas have rich culture, tradition, unique identity, glorious past but a pathetic present,” he asserted. Stating that the Congress would like to change this pathetic condition of the last 10 years, Faleiro appealed the electorates, “Give us government, we will give you peace, development and progress.”
Union Petroleum Minister, M. Veerappa Moily said 10 years of rule was enough to liberate the people from vicious circle of poverty but lamented that the rate of poverty had risen. He said that the ruling NPF had driven the state into a debt trap state despite the flow of enormous funds and alleged that the NPF had ushered in “social and political instability” in Nagaland.
“The electorate has to develop zero tolerance for corruption and misgovernance,” Moily said.
Stating that the Congress would be in a better position to serve the people, he said the Congress would release the people from the clutches of the corrupt regime. Moily exuded confidence of the party coming back to power in the state.
Give a brief overview of the book, NPCC Media Cell Chairman, Dr. K. Hoshi said all the scams and scandals contained in the book were under investigation by the State Vigilance Department. He said if the investigations were not satisfactory then the NPCC would take up the case to higher authorities.
The book would be distributed to all the 60 ACCs in the state which in turn would make it available to the people.
