NSCN (IM) adopting a procrastinating attitude: Ravi

In the midst of the differences groping up between the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs), the NSCN (IM) and the Government of India over the nature of solution to the Indo-Naga peace process, Nagaland Governor and Interlocutor for Naga Peace Talks, RN Ravi convened a consultative meeting with tribal hohos, civil society organizations and church leaders at Hotel Japfü in Kohima on Friday.

With the three month time frame given by the Government of India to conclude the 22 year old Naga peace process, there appears to be a stalemate over the conclusion of the talks with the NSCN (IM) firm on  their demand for a separate Naga constitution and flag.

The Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) which comprises of seven naga political groups, on the other hand, is willing to sign the deal, while asserting that the issue of constitution and flag can be resolved post solution.

The differences in the contours of the solution aspired by the two parties have also put a dent on the common opinion of the tribal hohos and civil societies.

Against this backdrop, Nagaland Governor and Interlocutor for Naga Peace Talks RN Ravi on Friday attempted to allay apprehensions among the civil society organizations and to clarify doubts on competencies and take them into confidence.
“Today was all about information not a consultative meet,” a representative from a civil society organization who attending today’s meet informed.

According to him, Ravi enlightened the gathering that the talk on the Naga peace process is at a concluding stage and an agreement is expected to be inked soon.

Ravi also reportedly impressed upon the gathering to support the in-hand solution laid on the table at present. Contiguous issues which cannot be resolved immediately and which requires longer time to study can be put up post solution through political and democratic process, he is learnt to have stated.

Meanwhile, a press release was also issued by  OSD to Nagaland Governor and Interlocutor for Naga Peace Talks, divulged further on Friday’s meeting with the primary stakeholders of the Naga society and the issue at hand with the NSCN (IM).

In the release, Ravi termed it unfortunate that the NSCN (IM) has “adopted a procrastinating attitude to delay the settlement raising the contentious symbolic issues of separate Naga national flag and constitution on which they are fully aware of the Government of India’s position.”

The Interlocutor said the NSCN (IM) have “mischievously dragged in the framework agreement and began imputing imaginary contents to it.”

Alleging that some NSCN (IM) leaders through various media platform are misleading the people with absurd assumptions and presumptions over what they have already agreed with the GoI, Ravi said in view of such unfortunate attitude, a detailed consultative meeting with the primary stakeholders of the Naga society was held.

It stated that the meeting was attended by the apex leadership of all the 14 Naga tribes of Nagaland, all minority non-Naga tribes of Nagaland, the Nagaland GB Federation, the Nagaland Tribes Council, church leaders and civil society organizations.

The framework agreement with the NSCN (IM) and the agreed position with the Working Committee of NNPGs were extensively shared with the leaders, pertinent issues discussed and doubts on competencies clarified, the press release said.

“Respecting the Naga people’s wishes, the GoI is determined to conclude the peace process without delay. Endless negotiations under the shadow of guns is not acceptable. The GoI expect all negotiating parties to heed the will of the people and facilitate conclusion of the Naga peace process within the stipulated time,” the press release stated.

FNR urges NNPGs, NSCN (IM) to
explore finding a common ground

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 18 (MExN): In an appeal, the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) has urged the Naga national groups, particularly the NNPGs and the NSCN (IM) to refrain from media confrontation while stating that this is only harming the Naga society and making us more vulnerable to further division.

The FNR also believed that the Naga national issue needs to be discussed with responsible and far-sighted contemplative engagement. Towards this, the Forum has urged the NNPGs and NSCN (IM) to meet, address all outstanding differences through dialogue and explore finding common ground.

The Forum at the same time appreciated the Naga national groups for upholding their commitment to the Covenant of Naga Reconciliation and expressed hoped that even in this difficult situation, the principle of reconciliation will be upheld in letter and spirit.

The Forum also sought to reiterate that it remain impartial and committed to Naga Reconciliation on the basis of Naga historical and political rights.  It also called for a healing leadership and visionary statesmanship in order to address all differences and find common ground.
