The meeting between representatives of Government of India and NSCN (K) leaders for extension of ceasefire scheduled on Monday in Delhi has been postponed to Tuesday (May 1) as more NSCN (K) leaders are expected to arrive in Delhi to attend the meeting.
“The meeting has been extended to Tuesday as two more of our members will be joining us tomorrow. But extension of ceasefire has more or less been agreed upon and we hope there will not be any problem,” NSCN (K) sources informed over phone from Delhi. NSCN (K) sources said that they are awaiting the arrival of two senior NSCN (K) members including Tikhat, who are expected to reach Delhi by Tuesday morning.
In the earlier meeting held on April 27, NSCN (K) members and Centre’s representatives could not finalize on ceasefire extension due to differences of opinions on some issues. According to sources, the Indian representatives have conveyed their displeasure at the NSCN (K) for signing a bilateral ceasefire agreement with Myanmar government without informing Delhi. They also raised the issue of the Naga outfit giving shelter to other Northeast militants.
The Centre’s representatives had also reportedly insisted that the ‘chief of Naga army’ NSCN (K) should attend the meeting.
However, NSCN (K) sources today said the minor differences between the GoI and NSCN (K) have been ironed out in another meeting held on April 28. The sources also disclosed that GoI is now no longer insisting on the presence of NSCN (K) Naga army chief in the meeting.
The Ceasefire between GoI and the two Naga outfits, first entered into in 2001 and extended on yearly basis, was due to expire Saturday (April 28).
The 5- NSCN (K) team presently campaigning in Delhi included their CFSB Supervisor Lincoln, ‘Kilonser’ Hokato Vushe, CFSB Secretary Khekahoto, ‘Deputy Kilonser’ Veduta Chakhesang and Nika Yeptho.
