According to the All India State Government Employees Federation (AISGEF) General Secretary,A Sreekumar the Government of India (GoI) is not doing the economy any good by privatising Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). Sreekumar, who is in Nagaland for the Northeast State Government Employee’s & Teacher’s United Forum Executive (NESGETUF) Meeting hosted by the Confederation of All Nagaland State Services Employees Association (CANSSEA) in Dimapurfrom December 12-13, told a press conference today that the government is only breeding corruption through the process of  privatization of the PSUs.

Besides, he held that “a big volume of corruption is going on” withthe government resorting to “contractual employments” and outsourcing work in place of filling up vacancies with regular employees for greater efficiency.

On the NESGETUF meeting in Nagaland, he said that it will discuss issues being faced by the government employees here. He further referenced theDecember 8 declaration of the AISGEF and Central Government Employees & Workers Confederation in Delhi, wherein it resolved to demand the Union and state governments to annul the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) Act and thereby, the New Pension Scheme— a contributory employee retirement fund introduced by the Union government in 2004.  It further demanded regularizing all contractual appointments and filling up all vacant posts, besides the demand for stopping privatization of PSUs.

To realize the demands, he informed that the AISGEF will conduct state and district level joint conventions beginning January2023, followed by “Parliament dharna” during the last week of February 2023 among others.

According to CANSSEA Vice President, T Chubayanger, the state body has also had several rounds of discussions on the NPS. “We have come to the conclusion that it (NPS) is not very healthy. Therefore, we have also joined in the all India movement for rollback of the NPS. Today, CANSSEA is hosting this consultative meeting… We are hopeful that concrete decision will be charted and all the representatives will come together and work for the movement,” he said.

The CANSSEA VP was asked whether the association has ever taken any steps to curb the culture of bribery in the state government system. On this, he replied that whenever issues concerning employees come up, the CANSSEA takes it up. However, he maintained that the CANSSEA’s primary objective is employee welfare and not policing or anti-corruption.He added that there are different other agencies related to the issues of corruption.
