‘Going Local’ is a stall set up in Viswema village by Neisal Theyo, Mhasheto Kraho and Khoneinü Kin, to promote local products and businesses, and introduce the idea of street food culture.

Started on December 22, the stall has had visitors not just from the village but from neighboring villages as well, such as Jakhama and Khuzama. Partnering with friends and local entrepreneurs, the stall sells a varied range of local products- Nagaland Coffee, Sevino Organic Ginger ale from Khonoma village, Cupcakes and honey from Viswema, Oyster mushrooms from Kohima. The trio also sells their own local made rosella tea, gooseberry tea, besides Panipuri and Chole.

“It is a humble initiative with low investment. Our main motive is to encourage our youngsters that we can earn through such ventures. While supporting local businesses, we also wanted to spread awareness on our local products,” says Neisal Theyo.

With the onset of the festive season, Theyo notes that a lot of young people love to hang out and roam about. Further, the season also ushers in the arrival of urban dwellers in the village during the holidays. The stall provides an opportunity for all to experience and learn more about Nagaland’s local products.

“The response has been really good. We posted about our stall on WhatsApp and other social media sites and the response was quick. Some people visited out of curiosity, while many came to show their support. We even have regular customers,” adds Theyo.

‘Going Local’ stall also welcomes any mode of payment including digital.

For the trio, the experience has been an enriching one with the solidarity shown by friends, acquaintances and family. “This year it’s more like a pilot study. We plan to set up again in future,” says Theyo.

‘Going Local’ stall at Watch Tower, R Khel Viswema will be opened till January 1.
